The class is filled with people who face challenges that cancer presents: people currently going through treatment, pre and post surgery, or simply in the "wait and see" phase of surviving. All ages and abilities are welcome. The Quality of Life class recently participated in their first weekend retreat sponsored by the "Women Beyond Cancer" organization. Core:
Our most concentrated class on the schedule. Yoga postures specifically sequenced to challenge your center and plug you into the power of proprioception. You will learn specific techniques for decreasing back pain while strengthening and toning the abdominal wall. You'll discover intrinsic back muscles and abdominal muscles that when strengthened in a balanced way will give you better posture, more overall strength, and greater mobility. Your agility and balance will improve, and you’ll have fun in the process. And, yes, you will sweat. ( 75 minutes)

Progression of Power Classes:
Astanga:
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois' traditional vinyasa flow yoga. This is the method upon which all Power Yoga is based. This class is open to all; however we recommend attending a few of the other classes before hand.  (90 - 100 min)
Power Tools:
A shorter dynamic flow practice followed by a more concentrated look at specific groupings of poses. Partner work, wall work, prop work and discussion may figure into the class. Accessible to most participants. (85 minutes)
Power Hour:
One hour of pure POWER. Our basic vinyasa (FLOW) yoga, done in an hour.
Power 1:
Movement linked with breath, created to work your entire body, refresh your mind, and sooth your spirit. Designed to build progressively, Power 1 is practical and accessible for the returning yoga student as well as those new to the discipline. It is a process-oriented routine where students of every level can immediately enjoy benefits, see improvements, and use new-found inner and outer strength to increase the quality of their workout. You will sweat. (75 - 90 minutes)
Power Unplugged:
Take your favorite power class and slow it down to connect more fully with your body and breath. Hold each pose a little longer, seeking greater integration. Transform your practice by exploring your personal boundaries and ability to enter stillness. Use this evening class to dissolve the day away and strengthen your focus.
Power 1 & 2:
Still the same movement linked with breath. A tad (okay, maybe more than a tad) more challenging than power 1. For those of you who want to move to the rhythm of your own breath and weave poses together with fluidity, stamina, and merriment. We’ll have joy, we’ll have fun, we’ll sweat together in the sun!(90 minutes)
Power 2:
This class is for those of you who want to move to the rhythm of your own breath and weave poses together with fluidity, stamina and merriment. not a class for beginners. (85 minutes)

Restorative
Thanks for all your help and support you have given me. Thanks for giving me new life and energy with Restorative Yoga. I love coming and feel it has really helped me--physically (I have a herniated disc which acts up once in awhile, but the yoga exercises have really helped by strengthening but yet relaxing my back muscles and leg muscles. I hurt my back on vacation, and it was sore off and on all the month of Jan., but with Restorative Yoga, it went away, and my back is strong and good again. I appreciate that so much), emotionally, and mentally. We are so glad your Alpine Yoga is so successful. You have worked very hard and deserve success.

Yoga for Stiffer Bodies
Nine months ago, I was approached by a friend as to my interest in running the first SLC marathon. . . . it had been 13 years since my last marathon and since then, well...while I have remained physically active, I had become dormant in my competition. . . . I agreed to train for the race if I had suitable cross training. I chose Centered City Yoga with D’ana Baptiste. My first run was pathetic. I ran half of the circumference of Liberty Park and died! I immediately enrolled in Centered city Yoga (I felt like an emergency case)! . . . I started from scratch with both training; each helping the other. The running time lengthened, the Yoga made me stronger. The miles took me up hills and made my body beg for mercy and the Yoga stretched me out and created a sense of calmness and confidence. The day of the race [I realized] I had sustained training nine months without one injury. I felt confident. I felt excited. . . .But I “hit the wall” at mile 19. I had not experienced this before. My sister-in-law announced to me, “OK, so this is your wall!”...I thought that when this happens to you, the race is over. She reminded me that it is possible to run through the wall and recover. (This is where the Yoga training came in). . . . I ran one entire mile with my eyes closed. I took all of the senses around me and simply experienced them while running through my wall. I finished the race, one hour later than anticipated. Crossing the line holding onto my sister-in-law’s hand and my son’s hand. I cried in the end, but I had made it. . . . After returning home, we ate and stretched. I stretched for four hours! That night, with very little pain, I danced to the B-52 band. The next day, I worked in my garden with no pain at all. Today, I’m running up and down stairs. Again, I know it was the Yoga. I started running with a firefighter and another friend who is obsessed with sports of all kinds. It was their first marathon too. One had to drop out (a non yoga believer), the other has multiple injuries. - Amy Susanne P. C.

I am sure that you have many seeking you out, just as I am because of your expertise and vast knowledge and experience. When I came to your Intro to Yoga class a couple weeks ago I was so impressed. Honestly I don't think that I have ever learned so much just in one class. You are so talented and have quite a gift with yoga. I think that it is so wonderful that you want to share it with others.

CCY is a place where everyone is welcome.

Without yoga our minds would wander causing us to not focuse on our wondering world. Healing the body dose not come from the doctores but comes from the new life of good thoughts.
