Centered City Yoga, established in 2002 by D’ana Baptiste, is the fruition of a dream D’ana had to create a place where people could practice yoga together in a friendly, clean, fun, and welcoming atmosphere. The studio is often likened to that famous TV “hangout” where everybody knows your name, sans Norm (and the beer, of course.) It’s a place where friends meet, where everyone feels included, and where families do yoga together. As soon as you enter the doors of CCY, you will feel like you have found a sane and safe corner of the world.
Centered City Yoga is well known for its incredibly talented, professional, and devoted (both to yoga and to the clientele) teachers, none of whom take themselves too seriously. They all genuinely love teaching yoga, but don’t take their identity from teaching. Centered City Yoga instructors are first and foremost “regular people:” dads and moms, musicians and mechanics, doctors and dancers, artists and attorneys. They teach yoga not to define their lives, but because they have seen the good it can do in their busy and full lives, and hope to share those benefits with you.
Centered City Yoga offers a varied schedule (with close to 50 classes a week) to keep you, the yoga practitioner, enthusiastic about your practice. All classes are known to be challenging yet nurturing, energizing yet cleansing, inspired and inspiring. Centered City Yoga is ultimately a fun place to be, with instructors who infuse humor and levity into their classes without losing the meditative and internal aspect of the practice.
For all of you who have heard about the many benefits of Yoga, but who have been turned off by the dogma, the mysticism, or the "stigma" surrounding it, we invite you to experience yoga, Centered City style. You won’t need to know a secret handshake, you will not be required to learn another language, and you will not be expected to “be quiet.” You will laugh with and learn from and probably even love the community that is CCY. |

Exciting News for July
SCHEDULE CHANGES
FIRST, I want to say thank you to all of you for the support we have felt this summer. Usually we have to cut many classes back. NOT this summer. For the months of July and August, we will continue with the same schedule except for the few following changes:
Astanga on Saturdays at 7:15 am will be taken off the schedule - but back in September.
At CCY West: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 9 am classes will be cancelled, but we are ADDING two FORREST YOGA classes Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 4 pm! Many of you have requested Forrest Yoga, and we are blessed to have Brande La Casse, a certified Forrest teacher to offer it! Join us!

Centered City Yoga has filled a void which has existed for me since moving to Salt Lake six years ago; it is a studio [where I] learn different things from each and every one of you. Very importantly to me, class is always different with a fabulous schedule which makes it impossible to not make a class; it is in no way ever repetitive or lacking in fresh input and creativity. I always feel challenged and inspired at Centered City. Plus, you all are fun, funny and a blast. . . . In addition to all of the above, . . . you have created a true community with the opportunity to deliver very valuable community services. I am boggled by all that you do and I am inspired to be a much more involved person because of your example. You bring in incredible people, you make it possible for moms to be there with your childcare, do benefits, etc.etc. That is unique and wonderful. Thanks, Dana, for all you have done for us all.

When Centered City came to 9th and 9th my yoga practice took on a whole new level; that of community. For so many years I had gone to yoga classes wanting to be invisible, wanting to be the last one in the back door and the first one out, because I thought that was the only way I could make it “me” time, which I get so little of. With my first class at Centered City I realized how refreshing it is to talk to the person on the mat next to you, and be in an environment that facilitates questions, respect, and most importantly, a little laughter. . . . . Thank you for reminding me of the importance of community, and for teaching me that yoga doesn’t have to be solemn to be effective.

I have the greatest admiration for you - for your business sense, for your yogic abilities, for your style of teaching, for your honesty about life issues, for your example of what a single mother can do, for your dedication to whatever you're asked or called to do, for your dedication to your children, for your ability to be "out there" and making a difference in whatever you touch.

Centered City Yoga is where I go to get centered!! The classes are a great mind, body, soul workout with a friendly, welcoming environment. I keep coming back as it’s nice to go somewhere where I can practice yoga and be on no one else’s agenda or have anyone’s philosophy or beliefs about yoga imposed upon me. Yoga can be what it is to me, and it’s terrific. I also like it that when I walk in the door, an instructor I’ve practiced with will greet me by name or if I haven’t met that instructor before, they ask my name and welcome me to class. It’s a great place-thanks for coming to SLC. It’s the best yoga in town. |
