Erin
Erin Meyer was born July 21, 1969, in Key West Florida. She grew up in seven cities in both Southern and Northern California. Erin went to college at the University of California, Santa Barbara where in 1991, she earned a BA in creative studies with an emphasis in biology, specialty pharmacology. She then moved to Basel, Switzerland where she worked at Sandoz Pharma, LTD. for one year. Erin then went to Georgetown University in Washington D.C. where in 1998, she earned a Ph.D. in pharmacology. During graduate school in August of 1994, Erin married Stanley Smiley whom she had known since 1988 when they met in organic chemistry class at UCSB. Erin and Stan have a daughter, Emily Smiley, who was born in 1998, three months after Erin defended her doctoral dissertation. Erin moved with her family to Salt Lake City, Utah in the fall of 1998 to do a post doctoral fellowship in the genetics of addiction and neurological disorders. She became a Research Assistant Professor in the department of Biology at the University of Utah in the year 2004.

Erin has been practicing yoga on her own for more than 20 years. She began seriously practicing with a teacher in 1999. When Centered City Yoga opened in her neighborhood, she began attending classes there. Pranayama is Erin's favorite practice. “You cannot breath in the past or in the future.” Erin completed teacher training with D'ana Baptist in June of 2007. She believes that the grounding, in-body experience of yoga changes lives and therefore changes the world.
